Rain, rain, don't go away...

I can't believe it. Despite all weather forecasters predicting NO RAIN in our area until at least Sunday (including the ones at 4am this morning-- I know, I was up!), I just heard tiny droplets falling on our skylights. It's not much, mind you, but it has to be enough to wash off SOME of the thick yellow glaze of pollen that currently covers everything from cars to innocent pedestrians who walk under trees. We're about 7 inches behind the yearly average for rainfall, which is depressing. Yay for raindrops!

Jacob is 3 weeks old today, and this is the first time he has ever seen the rain. I think it might have rained the day he was born, but since we didn't see the outside world that day, I'm not sure if it wasn't just cloudy.

Presently, my beautiful son and I are going to curl up on the couch and enjoy the sound of raindrops on the ceiling. Rainy days I always wish I had a tin roof, but skylights are almost just as nice. The pitter patter of water hitting the roof is one of my favorite sounds, and always good for some quality reading or napping. I think I'll try for the latter. Is it raining where you are?

Slooooow

Boo for slow blogging. Yesterday was my first day back at work after Jacob's birth, and I'm making decent progress towards vanquishing the pile of work that amassed in my absence. But it's a pretty big pile.

Team Redd is doing well, and, considering that Allison and I are both on the mend from an evil stomach virus, Jacob may be the healthiest member of the family right now. Lucky guy. (It really was an evil virus -- we even got to go back to the hospital. More on that later.)

It's March Again, Isn't It?

Despite a Double OT heartbreaker in the ACC tourney last week, Tech has once again received an invite to the Bid Dance! The Jackets are the 10th seed in the Midwest Region and will open against UNLV on Friday afternoon.

Home Again, Home Again

Hey folks. We got home from the hospital last night, but we're still getting settled in. Plus, Allison had to deliver by C-section (despite hours upon hours of active labor!), so she's still recovering. More details to come, but here's a cute picture of Jacob to tide you over!

Baby Jacob

Quick update: Our son Jacob was born Friday morning at 7:34. He weighed in at 8 lbs, 6.7 oz and measured 21 in. long. He and Allison are doing well. I'll post some more details (and pictures!) when we come home from the hospital on Monday.

You Don't See That Every Day

This afternoon, as we were taking a leisurely stroll around the neighborhood, we saw a sizable object protruding from a storm drain inlet. Further inspection revealed that it was a fairly large and very dead beaver.

(And of course, we didn't have our camera with us.)

Fantastic Mr. Anderson

I must be WAY behind. Oh wait, I've been teaching 126 teenagers and preparing to have a baby. Apparently, this news was reported last fall (and earlier, in some circles.)

I just read today that there is a stop-motion version of Roald Dahl's Fantastic Mr. Fox in the works. How did I miss this? I have a large Roald Dahl collection that I read all throughout my childhood (which I hope to share with our boy some day!), and though I've been largely unimpressed by recent movie versions of his works, I have to say that this one might just be great considering Wes Anderson is at the helm.

I love me some Wes Anderson films. In fact, I think one of the reasons I liked Little Miss Sunshine was that it was reminiscent of his movies. Of course, having Sufjan featured on the soundtrack didn't hurt, either.

All that to say-- Yay for all the good movies coming out that we probably won't get to watch in the theater but make me happy anyway, including Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Spiderman III, The Simpsons Movie, Ratatouille, Anderson's own The Darjeeling Limited and maybe even that silly-looking yet nostalgic TNMT.

(For those of you who are wondering, and I know many of you are -- no, there is still no baby news as of right now, 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 2. He'll come when he's good and ready, I'm sure. Otherwise, I wouldn't be posting to our blog, now would I?)
